Performance and protection are among the main requirements in sports activities. The same goes for our eyes. Good vision is essential for the best results, while the eyes must be protected from accidents.
Accident protection
A few years ago it was rare to see an athlete take eye protection measures. Of course, this was the case with almost all means of protection, such as the use of helmets by cyclists. But experts are sounding the alarm, as an accident in the eye can have irreversible consequences. Therefore, more and more gymnasts, athletes and parents are becoming aware of the issue of eye protection in sports. Many sports clubs have as a prerequisite for participation in activities the use of special protective glasses. It is forbidden to use normal glasses, as they can themselves become a cause of injury. The protective masks:
1. They have a soft material inside, in order to protect the area around the eyes
2. They have rubber instead of arms, so that they are perfectly held on the face
3. They have ventilation holes so as not to blur the inside of the lenses
4. They are made of durable and hypoallergenic material
5. They are compatible with the strictest specifications.
In addition to the protective masks, there are also special optical frames suitable for training, made of rubber or elastic polymer. Also, sports sunglasses have specifications that make them safe from accidents.
Good eyesight= top performance
Several studies have shown that the correction of even small ametropia plays a very important role in athletes, as it gives them faster and more accurate reactions. The perception of the fast-moving tennis ball, racket in basketball, or a puddle while cycling can determine victory or defeat. Visual correction can be applied to:
Sports Sunglasses
Ski masks and mountaineering goggles
Swimming goggles and masks
Protection masks
Sun and sport
The sun is the greatest ally in many of the sports activities. Sports sunglasses manage this ally in the best way for you. The color and optical properties of their lenses contribute to greater protection and better performance.
Depending on the sport, and if we need visual correction of our grades or protection from solar radiation, we choose appropriate equipment for our eyes:
FOOTBALL
Football is a tough sport. To avoid the risk of injury to the eye area, it is recommended to use a protective mask.
CYCLING
High speeds, dust, changing lighting conditions, sweat: For cycling, sunglasses with a single curved lens (mask) and light weight are preferred. In these frames there is the possibility of alternating lenses with different shades, from dark for intense brightness to yellow – orange for low light.
Beach Volley
For the favorite summer sport, a pair of dark wraparound sunglasses protects the eyes and skin from the sun and sand. Recommended lens colors all dark, especially gray, with or without mirror. Also, the polarizing filter is recommended, which alleviates the reflections of the sea.
CRICKET
A protective mask with optical correction or sports sunglasses with unbreakable lenses is recommended.
Recommended lens colors:
1.Brown shades that absorb blue radiation, improving the contrast and colors of the stadium and sky.
2. G15 green or gray that offer balanced colors in bright lighting conditions
TENNIS
As the speeds from the tennis ball are potentially dangerous, some means of eye protection is required, either in the form of sunglasses (it must be light and unbreakable) or a protective mask. Optical correction, if necessary, offers better performance and should be applied to either contact lenses or the protective frame.
SAILING / ROWING
Lightweight and durable sunglasses with good side coverage and with cord or rubber. Here the best solution is polarizing lenses, which will absorb the reflections of the sea. All lens colors can help, as long as they are dark.
BASKETBALL
In basketball, as in football, physical contact between opponents is intense and the likelihood of injury increased. The use of a protective mask is mandatory, to which visual correction can be added.
SHOOTING
Just as shown in the photo, protective masks or curved sunglasses with unbreakable lenses (polycarbonate) are recommended. The orange or yellowish color of the lenses increases the color contrasts, and therefore the sharpness of the target.
