Perhaps by mistake we have combined the quality of sunglasses with their branding and correspondingly with price. But while it is a fact that luxury eyewear designers maintain a level of quality provided, it is not true that only branded glasses are quality, nor is there a direct relationship between price and quality.
On the other hand, however, there is a perception that the quality of the frame does not matter much, as long as the lenses are good. Here we ignore the fact that the manufacturer that aims to save and lower the price, usually maintains this goal in the lenses as well.
The perfect frame should:
a. It must be made of materials friendly to the skin, both in terms of its mass and in terms of its dyes or coatings. Inappropriate materials have been implicated in allergies and much more serious skin diseases.
b. have a suitable shape to protect from the sun and the area around the eyes, which corresponds to 5-10% incidence of skin cancer
c. Be amenable to adjustments for the face and lightweight, so that it is comfortable in prolonged use.
d. have been constructed with safety specifications in case of an accident
Finally, important factors are the ability to reposition lenses or install prescription lenses, as well as the company’s service policy, as this allows you to keep your glasses for longer.
