Although previous research has shown quite
\nthe opposite.
\nScientists from the University of Melbourne examined how vulnerable
\nit was the eye on increased intraocular pressure in 3 different
\nmice groups. At temporarily high pressure (acute hypertension), at elevated pressure
\nfor 4 weeks (chronic hypertension) and at normal pressure.
\nInitially, hypertension was shown to protect the retina from changes
\nin blood flow in the group with acute hypertension, but this ability
\nwas lost after a few weeks. This means that having increased
\npressure for longer disrupted the eye’s ability to
\nwithstand high pressure. It altered the ocular blood vessels in such a way
\nwho could not react to changes in blood flow when
\nthe pressure was increasing.
\nThe research was published in Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
New research shows that elevated blood pressure can make
\neyes more susceptible to damage from increased intraocular pressure, increasing the
\nthe risk of developing glaucoma.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":1234,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[40],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1474","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-eye-diseases"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1474","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1474"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1474\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1234"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1474"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1474"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/zervopoulosopticians.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1474"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
